[转推] zerohedge reposted Haitian people, We have nearly finished deploying our soldiers and equipment on Haitian soil. This is not an operation against the Haitian people, nor an invasion of the country of Haiti. We are not a great power. We have no interest in coming to dominate the Haitian people, nor in laying hands on Haiti's wealth. We are a modest country that is developing. The only thing we want is for our four aviation technicians to return home. And we're giving the gangs a lesson—these gangs that make the Haitian people suffer, that kill people the population loves, that prevent them from living a normal, free life, without fear. It's almost just us footing the bill for this operation. Even though we receive a bit of logistical help from a few other countries, it's with our own modest funds that we're covering 90% of the expenses. It costs us dearly, but we've learned from our own suffering: justice and peace have no price. We went through the same suffering that Haiti is going through today. We lived through a nightmare that was even more horrific than what the Haitian people are enduring right now. We know what that means: living in fear, not trusting politicians, not believing anyone who promises to help you. Because no one came to help us, and those who did come didn't have good intentions in their hearts. But we managed to escape it. After 200 years of suffering, finally we're living in peace, and today we are the safest country on the continent. We didn't come to Haiti to make money, because no one is paying us to do it. We came to Haiti to fight against the wicked. But here's what I'm asking of you: trust us, pray to the one true God, and ask Him to heal Haiti. "If at that time my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, where I am, I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 Help us help Haiti. And when our mission is finished, we'll return home. Perhaps the next generation of Haitians will remember us as friends who came to help one day.

Intel Shares Tumble on Disappointing Profit and Weak PC-Market Outlook — WSJ. By Elias Schisgall and Robbie Whelan Intel shares plunged as much as 20% in after-hours trading Thursday after the company reported disappointing third-quarter results and forecast a prolonged slowdown in personal-computer sales. Much of the pressure on the PC segment is coming from the persistently high price of memory chips, and Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that PC sales are likely to remain weak for the next couple of years. Intel now expects the company's total addressable market for PCs to contract by about 12% this year, Zinsner said. Demand for memory, especially DRAM, has exploded with the rise of artificial intelligence agents. "When memory's at this price, it's hard," he said. "When CIOs have constrained budgets as they do now, they can spend the same amount, but that buys them fewer units." Despite the short-term choppiness, Zinsner said the company is confident in its long-term prospects and expects to gain market share as agentic AI moves deeper into the PC market. Intel projected fourth-quarter revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion and adjusted earnings of 25 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected $17.29 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter, and adjusted earnings of 45 cents a share. Intel's stock had more than doubled in the past year, through Thursday's close. Revenue grew 21% to $16.51 billion in the third quarter, missing analyst expectations for $16.56 billion. Revenue from the company's data-center and AI segment surged 78%, to $7.3 billion, but revenue in the client computing and physical AI group fell by 5%, to $8.1 billion. The company reported a third-quarter profit of $3.32 billion, compared with $4.06 billion in the year-ago period. Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted earnings were 52 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting 41 cents a share. While Intel should be a major beneficiary of the AI boom, its chip business has lost ground to rivals. The firm doesn't make cutting-edge AI chips, though technology has also prompted more demand for CPUs, the traditional processing chips for which Intel is known. "Despite near-term headwinds across the PC industry, demand for our CPUs remains robust, reinforcing our confidence in the long-term growth opportunities for our business," Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan said. He said Intel is prioritizing building additional capacity for its Xeon line of CPUs to meet "extraordinary demand." Sandisk Reports Another Big Earnings Beat. Investors May Have Wanted More. — Barrons.com. By Janet H. Cho Memory stock company Sandisk again posted quarterly revenue and per-share profit well ahead of expectations, but its shares zigzagged in afternoon trading, suggesting investors wanted more. After wobbling, the stock was down more than 2% in late afternoon trading. They closed the regular session down 5.3% at $1,330.05 on Thursday. For its fiscal first quarter, Sandisk reported adjusted earnings of $49.51 a share on revenue of $11.03 billion, up 378% from a year ago, and well above the adjusted EPS of $46.67 and $10.7 billion revenue Wall Street was expecting. Data center revenue soared 1,682% from a year ago, to $4.8 billion, above analysts' projections for $3.98 billion, according to FactSet. Revenue from Edge, a line of commercial flash memory products for smartphones, PCs, automotive, tablets, and physical AI applications, rose 320% from a year ago, to $5.8 billion, which actually missed expectations for $6.07 billion. Consumer revenue fell 39% to $397 million, also missing the $590 million expected. "Our confidence in the long-term trajectory of the business is grounded in three enduring strengths: technology leadership, deep consumer partnerships, and disciplined financial management," Sandisk said. It also sees a structural, AI-driven increase in demand for NAND memory extending beyond fiscal 2030. Shares of Sandisk's rivals also fell before it reported earnings. Micron Technology closed down 4.9% at $934.27; and Western Digital closed down 0.3%, at $395.41. But Seagate Technology closed up 0.4% at $700.47, and Micron. Sandisk's stock is up 460% through Thursday's close and up 579% over the past 12 months. Write to Janet H. Communication breakdown. By Jamie McGeever The big three US stock indices fell on Thursday, despite weaker oil prices, lower bond yields and upbeat economic growth data, as a record fall in Alphabet's shares following the company's latest earnings pummeled communication services stocks and revived investor concerns over AI spending. In my column today, I look at why the issue of Fed credibility is back on the table after Chair Kevin Warsh on Wednesday struggled to explain why the central bank left interest rates on hold. By his own admission, growth is strong, inflation is too high, and financial conditions aren't tight. So why not raise rates? Today's Key Reads ECB President Lagarde resigns at a time of mounting challenges for Europe ECB keeps December rate hike on the table amid mounting inflation risks Fed highlights economic strength but muddies outlook for Treasuries Robust consumer spending, AI-related investment power US economy in third quarter Cash is king as investors draw new battle lines in AI spending boom Today's Key Market Moves STOCKS: South Korea, China -1%. US shipper costs hit 5-year high. Today's Talking Points: Lagarde resigns European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde resigned on Thursday, with her departure confirmed for February next year, eight months before her term expires. She stands down at a critical juncture — economically, the euro zone faces weak growth, high energy prices, and rising inflation risks; politically, it is grappling with unrest in France, a potentially historic election there early next year, and the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. Lagarde says she is resigning because she wants to speak more freely about major, but unidentified, events. "I don't think that I can remain neutral." European leaders have more than one key ECB position to fill in the coming months — executive board member Isabel Schnabel leaves in January, and the central bank's chief economist Philip Lane is due to depart in May. Less is more At least that's the view of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh when it comes to policy decisions, forward guidance, 'dot plot' forecasts, and pretty much all communication. Warsh made that clear in his post-meeting press conference on Wednesday, where he announced that seven of the Federal Open Market Committee's eight meetings next year will be policy-setting events, and this will be reduced to six in 2028. Warsh said this will give the FOMC more time and space to take longer-term strategic views, and the impact on financial markets remains to be seen. Having fewer meetings to set policy means the Fed could fall behind the curve more easily, it could mean there is a greater chance of bigger moves at each meeting of, say, 50 bps, and could raise the likelihood of inter-meeting decisions. It will mean less market volatility around "live" meetings, but perhaps increase inter-meeting volatility. Watch this space. Alphabet droop Could a historic day for Google parent company Alphabet prove to be a turning point for the wider AI trade? Alphabet shares sank a record 13% on Thursday after third quarter results that missed expectations and pointed to a massive acceleration in cash burn from increased AI spending plans. The fall wiped around $500 billion off the company's market cap. The scale of the selloff underscores how jittery investors have become in recent weeks, and how sensitive the market is to AI firms' cash flow. Contrast Alphabet with Oracle, whose shares surged 11% on Wednesday after it said it plans to cap external financing and achieve positive cash flow in the second half of fiscal 2028. Granted, Oracle shares fell back on Thursday, but investors are becoming more discerning. What could move markets tomorrow? Weak quarter for Intel sends shivers through cooling chip stocks. By Sinéad Carew Chip stocks took another hit after Thursday's weak quarterly earnings report from Intel, which could make for interesting dynamics when trading reopens on Friday. The semiconductor index SOX sold off in post-close trading on Thursday after chipmaker Intel INTC blamed "near term headwinds across the PC industry," sending its shares tumbling 18% in the after-hours session. That followed the SOX's 1.4% drop during the regular session due to a messy earnings report from big AI spender Alphabet GOOG on Wednesday. Intel said a factory explosion in Israel will cost it roughly $600 million in lost revenue over two quarters because it has been shut down for about two weeks. Intel's fall took other big chip stocks down in post-close trading as well. "Overall semis weakness after hours is primarily a function of INTC guide and negative sentiment spillover," said Michael James, equity sales trader at Rosenblatt Securities. Intel's problems in the PC sector, an area of technology that does not garner the same scrutiny on Wall Street as the AI buildout, does not seem to necessarily mean big problems for other chipmakers that operate more prominently in AI. Nevertheless, investors in the less-active post-market trade chose to shoot first and ask questions later. AMD AMD dropped 4% and Broadcom AVGO fell 2%. Among the biggest losers in the volatile session were the Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull ETF SOXL , which offers investors three times the daily performance of the SOX and was off 9%. "The revenues missed due to lower PC demand and forward guidance also disappointed. As Google learned today, earnings matter," said Kim Caughey Forrest, founder and chief investment officer at Bokeh Capital Partners LLC. Google parent Alphabet dropped 13% on Thursday. The SOX has been one of 2026's standout performers, rising more than 60% as shortages of chips and equipment needed for the AI buildout drive up prices and profits at firms ranging from giant Nvidia NVDA and memory chip firm Micron MU to Marvell Technology MRVL . But the momentum of that trade has been tested over the past month by tightening financing terms. That has kept some expected IPOs on the sidelines and put some highly leveraged AI infrastructure firms under pressure. The SOX has declined 13% since hitting its recent high in October and is off 21% from its all-time high in June. That said, pre- and after-market trading often exaggerates moves relative to those in the more liquid regular session, particularly for stocks affected by a rival's news. "I think it should not have much of an effect on the market," said Caughey Forrest. "It sounds like it was a PC issue. AMD may be a target for selling tomorrow too. Intel does not have much to do with AI, which is why the market might ignore it."
"Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and SpaceX have all launched new, more capable AI models since CEOs Dario Amodei, Elon Musk and Sam Altman publicly agreed to decelerate their companies to protect society from harm," per WaPo

Intel Says PC Slowdown Hit Results in 3Q — Market Talk. Intel says a slowdown across the personal computer market driven by a shortage of memory technology weighed on its results in the third quarter. The client computing and physical AI group, which includes its PC business, reports a 5% decline in revenue to $7.3 billion. Rising memory costs have led to a drop in PC shipments and a steep increase in prices, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this fall. Intel says the trends in the PC markets are impacting its total addressable market, with CFO David Zinsner projecting that the PC slowdown will continue at least through the first half of 2027. Top News Today: Stocks Fall as Alphabet Slide Dents AI Optimism. MARKET WRAPS STOCKS: Stocks fell after Alphabet's quarterly revenue shortfall spurred a deep loss for the Google parent and broader fears about the artificial-intelligence boom. TREASURYS: Treasury yields fell after inflation data that was more or less in line with economists' expectations. FOREX: The U.S. dollar fell as traders digested Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's comments. COMMODITIES: Oil futures slipped as traders weighed reports of potential negotiations between the U.S. and Iran against reports that President Trump was reviewing attack plans. HEADLINES Alphabet Sheds Half a Trillion in Market Value in Stock's Worst Day Ever Google's stock suffered its worst day on record Thursday as investors confronted the reality that a company that has long been a dynamo of growth and profits faces painful trade-offs from the artificial-intelligence transition. The slide erased roughly $500 billion from Alphabet's market value. It also weighed on major U.S. stock indexes, fueling a decline in the Nasdaq composite and amplifying fears that the costs of the global AI build-out may be outrunning the returns. The tech giant reported on Wednesday that its Google Services unit, which includes search advertising, YouTube and subscriptions, generated $96.3 billion, missing Wall Street expectations of $98.5 billion, signaling that Google's biggest revenue engine is slowing as internet habits change and AI reshapes how consumers search for information and products. DoorDash to Buy Instacart for $17 Billion DoorDash has struck a deal to buy food-delivery rival Instacart for about $17 billion in cash and stock, adding a major grocery delivery partner to its growing roster of services. DoorDash on Thursday said the deal values Instacart at $65 a share, an 11% premium to Wednesday's closing price of $58.42 and roughly 26% above Instacart's closing price of $51.68 on Oct. 22, before published reports that the company was pursuing a sale. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that DoorDash was in advanced talks to acquire Instacart, citing people familiar with the matter. Amazon Earnings Miss Wall Street Estimates Despite Highest Cloud Growth in Five Years Amazon.com reported higher-than-expected revenue from Amazon Web Services in its third-quarter earnings on Thursday, showing sustained momentum in its cloud computing business. Amazon Web Services brought in $46 billion in revenue for the three months through September, accounting for 39% growth year-over-year, the company said. Overall revenue increased 12% to $201.9 billion, and net income was $20.7 billion. Both were below analysts' estimates polled by FactSet. Starbucks Same-Store Sales Climb on U.S. Growth Starbucks recorded higher same-store sales in the fiscal fourth quarter, as its turnaround plan drives revenue in the U.S. The coffee-shop chain posted a profit of $677.2 million, or 59 cents a share, compared with $133.1 million, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier. Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were 80 cents, ahead of the 72 cents anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet. U.S. Economy Accelerated This Summer Despite High Gas Prices U.S. economic growth picked up steam over the summer. Business investment surged, driven by the artificial-intelligence build-out, and consumers continued to spend at a healthy clip despite high gas prices and other affordability concerns. The Commerce Department said Thursday that U.S. gross domestic product-the value of all goods and services produced across the economy-rose at a 3.4% annual rate in the third quarter. That number is adjusted for inflation and seasonality. PCE Inflation Accelerated Last Month The inflation metric targeted by the Federal Reserve sped up in September, showing why elevated price increases hang over the central bank's next moves. Prices as measured by the personal-consumption expenditures price index increased by 0.5% last month, after rising by 0.3% in August, the Commerce Department said Thursday. TALKING POINT The Four Academics Who Dreamed Up California's Billionaire Tax The proposed California wealth tax has galvanized a host of billionaires who have lined up to fight it. On the other side lies a group of less obvious power brokers: the four professors who drafted the ballot measure. The group is made up of three professors at the University of California: Berkeley economist Emmanuel Saez and law professors Brian Galle and Darien Shanske, at Berkeley and Davis, respectively. The fourth is tax scholar David Gamage at the University of Missouri's law school. The four have advised on a host of similar measures at both the state and federal level that have stalled so far. The California billionaire tax, on the ballot Tuesday as Prop. 40, represents the closest they have come to seeing a wealth-tax proposal they helped craft become law. It has become one of the costliest ballot fights in California's history and has exposed deep divisions among Democrats. If it becomes law, it would be the first U.S. wealth tax in the modern era. The academics behind the measure have quietly become the go-to brain trust for Democratic lawmakers and state activists, but they have garnered criticism elsewhere. "The Billionaire Tax is a new proposal written by four professors who don't believe in the American dream," said investor and "All-In" podcast host Chamath Palihapitiya on X earlier this year. "Some of them aren't even American...go figure," he added, presumably referring to Saez, a prominent economist who has both French and U.S. citizenship. Prop. 40 calls for a one-time, 5% tax on the net worth of each California billionaire who was a state resident on Jan. 1, 2026. Supporters estimate it could raise more than $100 billion to cover shortfalls wrought by Trump's tax law. They argue few billionaires would leave the state over a one-time tax whose toll they could quickly erase through investment and business gains, and that California will keep minting new billionaires, notwithstanding the tax.
