Sandisk Stock Split Makes Shares Cheaper Just as JPMorgan Sees 69% Upside. Sandisk Corp SNDK is about to make its high-flying stock look considerably more affordable without changing what the company is worth. The 8-for-1 split comes as its AI storage business accelerates, supply remains tight and JPMorgan sees another 69% upside, suggesting the rally may have more room to run . An Eightfold Change in Price Sandisk announced an 8-for-1 forward stock split alongside its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results. Shareholders of record on Nov. 9 will receive seven additional shares for every share they own, with split-adjusted trading expected to begin Nov. 20. At the Oct. 29 closing price of $1,330.05, one share would effectively become eight shares worth approximately $166.26 each. An investor holding 10 shares would own 80 shares, but the position’s total value would remain unchanged. The split does not make Sandisk fundamentally cheaper or create additional value. It lowers the entry price per share, potentially making the stock more accessible to retail investors and employees participating in its stock purchase plan. AI Storage Is Driving Growth The timing reflects a rapidly expanding business. Sandisk generated $11.03 billion in fiscal first-quarter revenue, up 23% sequentially and 378% year over year. Non-GAAP earnings came in at $49.51 per share, while gross margin reached 85.1%. Data-center revenue climbed 61% sequentially to $4.8 billion, accounting for roughly 44% of total sales. The edge business, which includes storage used in devices such as PCs and smartphones, contributed $5.83 billion, up 7%. Consumer revenue fell 29% to $397 million, highlighting how heavily growth is now concentrated in enterprise and AI-related demand. Management expects the momentum to continue. Sandisk guided for second-quarter revenue of $12.2 billion to $12.6 billion, with non-GAAP earnings of $55 to $57 per share, both on a pre-split basis. JPMorgan Sees More Upside JPMorgan analyst Harlan Sur maintains an Overweight rating and a $2,250 price target. Against the Oct. 29 close, that implies approximately 69% upside. After the split, the equivalent target would be $281.25. Sur’s thesis centers on long-term customer agreements that provide greater visibility into demand and pricing. Sandisk expects roughly 50% of its fiscal 2027 bit shipments and 66% of fiscal 2028 shipments to be covered by its New Business Model agreements. The company has also said customer demand exceeds available supply through the end of the decade. That visibility matters because AI workloads are creating demand for increasingly capable storage, not just computing power. For investors, the split may make Sandisk easier to buy in smaller increments, but the bigger question is whether earnings can keep growing fast enough to justify its valuation. JPMorgan’s target suggests substantial optimism; the company’s ability to convert AI demand into durable growth will determine whether that optimism holds.

Micron Stock Drops Again. Surging Memory Prices Aren't All Good News. — Barrons.com. By Adam Clark Micron Technology was sliding early Friday. A warning from Intel about the surging cost of memory chips is a reminder of its extraordinary profitability but might also provoke worries about the sustainability of the hardware cycle. Micron shares were down 4.5% at $892.19. That was broadly in line with the wider semiconductor sector, which was falling after Intel and Amazon earnings both disappointed the market late Thursday. Intel attributed at least part of its problems directly to the shortage of memory chips, which it said were hitting the PC market and therefore demand for its chips. "We do not expect a sustained recovery until memory availability improves and pricing begins to normalize," said Intel CFO Dave Zinsner, in an earnings call. "We are not optimistic about next year in terms of memory." Of course, a memory-supply crisis means bigger profits for Micron. But some of its customers — especially those making lower-end smartphones and other devices instead of artificial-intelligence hardware — are being forced to scale back their specifications or pass on price increases. The risk is that if at some point AI spending falters, then Micron and its memory chip peers will find that PC and smartphone customers have already pulled back on hardware spending and are unable to fill the gap. So far there's no real indication of a pullback in AI investment. The majority of the major technology companies that reported this week at least maintained their capital expenditure guidance, with only Microsoft reducing its capex forecast by a small amount, citing delayed third-party capacity deliveries. But Micron is still dogged by fears of past memory-chip cycles where shortages were followed by a glut of supply and steep earnings falls. And that means Intel's memory concerns are a mixed message for the stock. Write to Adam Clark at adam.clark@barrons.com This content was created by Barron's, which is operated by Dow Jones & Co. Sandisk Just Revealed Where Almost 90% of Its New Revenue Came From. Sandisk Corp. ‘s SNDK fiscal first-quarter earnings offer a striking look at how quickly the AI boom is reshaping its business. The digital storage maker added more than $2 billion in quarterly revenue, but almost nine-tenths of that increase came from one customer market: data centers. The numbers show just how much of its growth is now riding on AI infrastructure spending. Data Centers Drove 88% of Growth Sandisk reported fiscal first-quarter revenue of $11.03 billion, up 23% from $8.97 billion in the previous quarter. That is an increase of approximately $2.07 billion in just three months. Data-center revenue rose 61% sequentially to $4.80 billion from $2.98 billion, adding $1.83 billion. Divide that increase by Sandisk’s total revenue growth, and the result is 88.3%. In other words, data centers accounted for nearly nine-tenths of Sandisk’s additional quarterly revenue. This does not mean they generated 88% of total sales. Rather, it shows that almost all of the company’s latest sequential growth came from this single business. The Rest of the Business Tells a Different Story Sandisk’s other segments offered a more mixed picture. Revenue from its Edge business, which includes storage products for smartphones, PCs and other devices, increased by approximately $400 million to $5.83 billion. Consumer revenue moved in the opposite direction, falling $159 million sequentially to $397 million. The shift is visible in the company’s revenue mix. Data centers accounted for 33.2% of Sandisk’s sales in the previous quarter. That share climbed to 43.5% in the latest quarter, a jump of more than 10 percentage points. The company attributed the growth partly to strong demand and its decision to direct more supply toward data-center customers. Its earnings presentation also highlighted partnerships with three major U.S. cloud-computing companies, underscoring the importance of large infrastructure customers to its expansion. AI Is Becoming the Growth Engine For investors, the distinction between total revenue and incremental revenue matters. Data centers are not yet responsible for most of Sandisk’s sales, but they are increasingly responsible for moving the top line higher. That creates a significant opportunity as cloud providers expand AI infrastructure and require more storage capacity to support increasingly data-intensive workloads. Sandisk’s ability to prioritize supply for those customers gives it exposure to that spending cycle. But the concentration also creates a risk. If hyperscalers slow data-center investment, delay projects or reduce storage purchases, the business currently driving most of Sandisk’s growth could lose momentum. The latest quarter makes one thing clear: Sandisk is no longer simply benefiting from a broad recovery in storage demand. Its growth is becoming increasingly tied to the AI data-center buildout, making the spending decisions of a relatively concentrated group of large customers especially important to watch.

Nasdaq hits near three-month low as Amazon, Intel deepen AI capex concerns. By Shashwat Chauhan and Tharuniyaa Lakshmi The Nasdaq tumbled to its lowest in nearly three months on Friday after Amazon's aggressive AI spending plan and Intel's cash burn warning intensified concerns over mounting costs of AI infrastructure buildout and the timeline for returns. Amazon.com AMZN slipped 2% after the company reported a sharp cash outflow in the third quarter and signaled another increase in capital expenditure next year, on top of already elevated outlays. It pared much of its premarket declines. Intel INTC tanked more than 30%, set for its biggest one-day loss on record, after the chipmaker warned it would burn cash this year due to a weak market for personal computers, manufacturing hurdles and heavy spending to expand production. The decline sparked a selloff in global chip stocks, with Nvidia NVDA down 3% and AMD AMD sliding 9.3%. The broader chips index SOX shed 5.7%. Server makers Dell DELL and HP HPQ lost about 9% each. Amazon and Intel were set to wipe out about $200 billion in combined market value, if losses hold, putting the Nasdaq-100 NDX on track to erase just over $1 trillion. The index is set to shed over $2 trillion this month. "It's more a question of what is priced into a stock and how much investors are expecting. Alphabet, Amazon and Intel fall into the category where it doesn't take much to trigger a significant disappointment," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth. "I don't think this is a broader reset... It's more of a rotation out of an extremely popular technology trade and into safer havens." Consumer staples S5CONS and healthcare S5HLTH indexes, traditionally considered defensive sectors, were up 1.9% and 1.7%, respectively. The S&P 500 information technology index S5INFT was the biggest drag, down 3.4% and set for its biggest one-day fall since June 23. The communication services index S5TELS lost 0.7% and was headed for its worst month since April 2022. Alphabet GOOG slipped 1.2%, after a record selloff in the previous session when the Google parent reported disappointing results in its search-advertising business and a sharp increase in cash outflows. Microsoft MSFT , however delivered a big cash-flow beat, though it raised $25 billion through a debt sale. At 09:53 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJI fell 203.15 points, or 0.39%, to 52,139.41. The S&P 500 CBOE:SPX lost 94.01 points, or 1.22%, to 7,626.38, while the Nasdaq Composite IXIC shed 578.39 points, or 2.21%, to 25,606.33. Energy stocks SPN were supported by a 1.7% and 2.7% gain in Chevron CVX and Exxon Mobil XOM , respectively, after they beat third-quarter profit estimates. All three indexes were on course for weekly losses. While the Dow was on track for monthly gains, the Nasdaq was set to snap a two-month winning streak in October. Expectations that the US Federal Reserve, according to LSEG data, would raise interest rates by more than 50 basis points by mid-2027, added to AI capex concerns as companies increasingly rely on debt to fund their buildout, and higher borrowing costs could make such spending harder to justify. The central bank held rates steady earlier this week, as expected. Among other movers, social media platform Reddit RDDT slid 26% after CEO Steve Huffman warned that total daily active unique visitors could fall by a low double-digit percentage in the fourth quarter. Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1.31-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by 2.4-to-1 on the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 posted 39 new 52-week highs and four new lows, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 51 new highs and 160 new lows.

QUICK SPARK: Intel Stock Drops 28%, Eyes Worst Day Since July 1974. Intel Corp. INTC is having its worst day in more than half a century. Shares fell 29.1% to $65.25 in Friday morning trading, on track for the steepest one-day drop since July 1974. That would top the 26% slide in August 2024, previously the stock’s worst session in five decades. Chart: Intel Corp. daily price change since 1973. Source: TradingView The chipmaker beat third-quarter estimates. However, it guided fourth-quarter revenue to about $15.5 billion and adjusted earnings to 25 cents a share. Wall Street had expected roughly $17 billion and 43 cents. Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya downgraded Intel to Neutral from Buy and cut his price objective to $100 from $145. He said Intel’s “agentic tide” in data center chips is “more than offset by PC/supply headwinds.” Arya expects PC shipments to drop 25% to 30% from the prior quarter in the fourth quarter, with more inventory correction in the first half of 2027. He also said Intel has not shown enough traction with external foundry customers. As a result, he cut his 2027 earnings estimate by 16% to $1.69 a share. He was not alone. According to Benzinga Analyst Ratings , Seaport Global and Roth Capital also cut Intel to Neutral on Friday, while seven firms lowered their price targets. DEUTSCHE BANK WARNS AI SELLOFF COULD WEAKEN US DOLLAR Deutsche Bank warns the US dollar may lose its traditional safe-haven status during an AI-driven stock market correction. Foreign investors hold over $20 trillion in US equities, with roughly 90% of that value attributed to price appreciation. According to strategist George Saravelos, a US-led technology selloff could push stocks and the dollar lower simultaneously, potentially triggering increased currency hedging by foreign investors. The key takeaway: An AI-driven market correction could create a double hit to US equities and the dollar, challenging traditional safe-haven assumptions.
