Tech Earnings Sink SpaceX Stock. No Other Companies Meet Elon Musk's High Bar. — Barrons.com. By Al Root What a difference a few days makes. Earnings from companies with artificial-intelligence operations haven't been horrible, just not good enough to support the stock market. No other tech giant has met the high bar SpaceX set after its third-quarter earnings report. On Oct. 20, SpaceX reported better-than-expected third-quarter earnings, sending shares up 8%, with CEO Elon Musk talking about strong AI demand and pricing his company was scrambling to meet. Then came earnings from Meta Platforms, Alphabet, Amazon.com, and Intel. SpaceX stock was falling 3.1% in premarket trading on Friday at $139.48, just a few dollars above its initial public offering price of $135, and down 12% from the post-earnings boom. Most stocks were weak early Friday, after disappointing earnings from Amazon.com and Intel. S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite futures were off 1% and 2.3%, respectively. Amazon shares were down 6.6% after the company reported third-quarter earnings per share of $1.89, down from $1.95 a year ago and below analysts' consensus estimate of $1.97, according to FactSet. Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud business, grew 39% year over year, faster than Wall Street expected. Amazon's e-commerce business, however, grew 6%, slower than expected. Intel stock was down 26% after the company reported better-than-expected third-quarter earnings per share of 52 cents. Wall Street was looking for 41 cents. Fourth-quarter guidance was weak, however. PC demand is weakening amid high memory chip prices. Intel and Amazon are the latest problems. Alphabet's operating profit from its search business missed Wall Street estimates, sending shares down 13% on Thursday. Before that, Meta's plan to issue a new class of stock to finance the AI boom sent its shares down 7% on Oct. 22. Microsoft reported strong earnings late Wednesday. The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $4.89, better than the $4.71 Wall Street projected. Still, shares fell about $1 to $530.14, unable to overcome Alphabet's plunge. Altogether, recent earnings from AI-related companies have been OK, but investors wanted far better than OK. Nvidia Shares Drop Amid Chip Selloff: What's Happening. Nvidia Corporation NVDA shares are down about 2.8% Friday in premarket trading, sliding with a chip selloff led by Intel Corporation INTC , which is down 25.9% after it reported earnings and issued guidance Thursday after the market closed. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. AMD fell 8.04% and Broadcom Inc. AVGO was down 3.92% as the weakness spread across major chipmakers. Nvidia stock is under selling pressure. What’s driving NVDA stock lower? Intel Beats on Earnings and Revenue but Guides Q4 Well Below Estimates Intel reported third-quarter earnings of 52 cents per share, beating the consensus estimate of 40 cents. It reported revenue of $16.51 billion, beating the consensus estimate of $16.47 billion. The fourth-quarter outlook is what moved the stock. Intel expects adjusted earnings per share of 25 cents, against the consensus estimate of 43 cents, and revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, against the consensus estimate of $17.05 billion. "Despite near-term headwinds across the PC industry, demand for our CPUs remains robust," said Lip-Bu Tan , Intel’s CEO. "Our immediate priority is to unlock additional supply to meet extraordinary demand for our Xeon family." Why Intel’s Report Is a Read-Through for Nvidia Nvidia’s AI accelerators are a different business from Intel’s PC and server processors, so the read-through is partly about sentiment and partly about exposure. A drop of this size in a large chipmaker pulls the group lower as investors cut positions in stocks that have run up, and Intel’s warning about PC industry headwinds adds to the questions. Nvidia also owns about 214.8 million Intel shares, bought for $5 billion at $23.28 each in a deal completed in December, and the two companies are developing x86 RTX chips for PCs and custom x86 CPUs for data centers. The stake was valued at about $30.0 billion on June 30, according to Nvidia’s filing, and at Intel’s extended-trading price of $76.85 it would be worth about $16.5 billion. On the other side, Tan said demand for Intel’s server CPUs is extraordinary, which fits with strong AI infrastructure spending. Nvidia Reports in Mid-November, With Analysts Expecting About $108.8B in Revenue Nvidia is expected to report fiscal third-quarter results after the market closes on Nov. 17. Analysts estimate earnings per share of $2.48 along with revenue of $109.17 billion. Nvidia guided to revenue of about $108 billion for the quarter. In the second quarter, Nvidia reported revenue of $96.22 billion, up 106% from a year earlier, and beating the consensus estimate of $92.18 billion. Data center revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117%. Non-GAAP earnings per share was $2.22, beating the consensus estimate of $2.10. Nvidia Shares Edge Lower NVDA Price Action: At the time of publication, Nvidia shares are trading 2.89% lower at $207.49, according to data from Benzinga Pro .

Why Is Intel Stock Sinking Friday. Intel Corp. INTC stock plunged nearly 26% in Friday’s premarket trading as investors reacted to disappointing fourth-quarter guidance and a broader technology sell-off. Nasdaq futures fell 2.23%, while S&P 500 futures declined 0.94%. Intel beat third-quarter expectations but issued a fourth-quarter outlook well below Wall Street estimates, raising concerns about PC demand, rising memory costs and the company’s ability to sustain growth in its data center and foundry businesses . Beats Q3 Estimates, Guidance Disappoints Intel reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of 52 cents per share, beating analysts’ consensus estimate of 40 cents. Revenue of $16.51 billion topped Wall Street’s estimate of $16.47 billion. For the fourth quarter, Intel forecast adjusted earnings of 25 cents per share, below the 43-cent consensus estimate. The company expects revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, compared with expectations of $17.05 billion. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company’s third-quarter results reflected improved execution, progress in expanding supply and advances in process technology. Despite near-term weakness in the PC market, Tan said CPU demand remains strong. Intel is prioritizing additional Xeon supply to meet robust demand while improving its product lineup and roadmap. He added that the company is focused on capitalizing on these opportunities to drive sustainable growth and create long-term shareholder value. Benchmark Flags PC Weakness and Memory Pressures Benchmark analyst Cody Acree described Intel’s third-quarter results as solid but said its fourth-quarter outlook represented a significant miss. Acree told CNBC that weakness was concentrated in PCs and memory-related pressures. He estimated Intel’s fourth-quarter forecast fell short of expectations by about 20 cents per share and nearly $2 billion in revenue. Acree said Intel remains heavily dependent on PCs, where rising memory costs are pressuring manufacturers and potentially delaying purchases. He expects those supply-demand challenges to continue into 2027. However, Acree said Intel’s data center business remains on track, with results exceeding estimates by about $500 million. Its foundry business also performed better than expected. He believes agentic AI could boost Intel’s CPU business as demand grows for processors supporting AI workloads. Acree also highlighted increasing customer engagement around Intel’s 14A manufacturing process, suggesting the company could eventually become a meaningful competitor to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. TSM . Bernstein Warns of Sharp PC Decline Bernstein senior analyst Stacy Rasgon said Intel delivered relatively solid quarterly results, with revenue near expectations and margins exceeding estimates. However, he described its fourth-quarter guidance as extremely weak. Rasgon told CNBC that Intel forecast approximately $15.5 billion in revenue, compared with Wall Street expectations of roughly $17 billion. He expects Intel’s PC client business could decline at least 20% sequentially in the fourth quarter, even as data center revenue potentially grows about 10%. Rasgon attributed the PC weakness to memory shortages that are constraining system production. He also raised concerns about a potential inventory correction after CPU shipments outpaced underlying PC demand in recent quarters. Rasgon warned that memory supply challenges could persist through at least the first half of 2027, potentially affecting smartphones and other consumer electronics. Intel’s Turnaround Remains Uncertain Rasgon said investors are betting on Intel’s multiyear transformation rather than its near-term earnings performance. While acknowledging improvements in Intel’s balance sheet and stronger server demand, he questioned the company’s potential earnings from expanding its third-party foundry business. Acree offered a more optimistic assessment, arguing that growing AI-related CPU demand and foundry progress could support Intel’s longer-term recovery despite near-term PC weakness. INTC Stock Price Activity: Intel shares were down 25.72% at $68.39 during premarket trading on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data .

Why Intel Is Down 25% Premarket — WSJ. By Ed Ballard Intel is on course for its worst trading day ever after posting its results after hours yesterday. The stock is down by roughly 25% before the bell, which would wipe off around $120 billion from the company's market value. Here's what to know. Revenue guidance disappointed. Intel said sales would come in between $15 billion and $16 billion in the current quarter; analysts polled by FactSet had expected north of $17 billion. PC sales are tanking. Intel expects the PC market to contract by 12% this year and 10% in 2027. Blame that memory shortage. The soaring cost of chips, caused by demand from AI data centers, is pushing up the price of computers to levels customers can't stomach. Factory outage. CEO Lip-Bu Tan said an "unfortunate and tragic" accident at a factory in Israel led to a multiweek shutdown that is hitting server shipments. Supply bottlenecks. The company was hit by a shortage of organic substrates-the basic material that electronic components are built on. Capacity expansions won't pay off till the second half of next year, Intel said. Sector implications. That shortage points to supply-chain woes that are also hitting Intel's competitors. Shares in Broadcom, AMD, Micron and others are down premarket. And yet... Data-center and AI revenue gained 78% year-over-year. Intel says the market for CPUs in servers could rise from $40 billion to $200 billion in five years, based on what it called conservative assumptions about the growth of agentic AI. There are 3 Questions to Answer Before a Possible Tesla and SpaceX Merger — Barrons.com. By Al Root For analysts and investors, a Tesla-SpaceX merger isn't a question of if, but when. Still, there are a few questions to answer before Elon Musk's trillion-dollar companies can become a vertically integrated artificial-intelligence behemoth. The three biggest issues are "premium, vote, and China," said BofA analyst Alexander Perry. Most analysts see SpaceX as the acquirer, paying a premium in an all-stock deal. But how much? RBC analyst Tom Narayan believes $480 per Tesla share would get a deal done. Perry sees a 20% to 30% premium, which would push Tesla stock up closer to $500, just beyond its all-time high. After price, there is the Tesla shareholder vote to consider. Most of the time, Tesla investors side with CEO Musk — just remember his 2025 trillion-dollar stock award, which roughly 75% of Tesla voted in favor. But a 2025 non-binding proposal to invest in xAI — which merged with SpaceX in early 2026 — failed despite getting more yes votes than no votes. "Tesla's charter requires approval from a majority of all outstanding shares, with abstentions and broker non-votes counting against a deal," added Perry in a report Thursday. More than the vote, China looks to be the toughest hurdle to completing a merger. A Tesla-SpaceX merger would be the largest deal in U.S. history, surely drawing scrutiny of regulators around the globe. China represents the "main regulatory risk," added Perry. "As a potential deal would place Tesla's Shanghai plant, which builds roughly half of its global vehicle output, under a major U.S. defense contractor." Chinese regulators effectively killed the 2018 proposed merger between Qualcomm and NXP Semiconductors. It also held up the 2023 deal between Broadcom and VMware. Perry believes a merger could add "incremental upside" to Tesla stock, with shared AI infrastructure the main deal synergy. SpaceX uses AI computers to create digital applications. Tesla uses AI computers to train cars and robots. Tesla stock was down 2.4% in premarket trading on Friday at $393.42. SpaceX shares were down 3.1% at $139.40. The market was weak after disappointing earnings from Amazon.com and Intel. S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite futures were off 1% and 2.3%, respectively. Write to Al Root at allen.root@barrons.com. AMD Shares Feel the Heat as Intel Drags Chip Stocks Lower: What’s Going On. Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD shares are down about 8% Friday in premarket trading as chip stocks slide in sympathy with Intel Corporation INTC , which reported earnings and issued guidance on Thursday after the market closed. Intel was down 25.51% premarket today, weighing on other semiconductor names, including ASE Technology Holding Co. Ltd. ASX , SK Hynix Inc. SKHY and Astera Labs Inc. ALAB . AMD stock is taking a hit today. What’s pressuring AMD stock? "Our immediate priority is to unlock additional supply to meet extraordinary demand for our Xeon family." Why Intel’s Report Is a Read-Through for AMD and Other Chip Stocks Intel and AMD compete in the same markets, PC processors and server CPUs, so Intel’s weak outlook speaks to demand and supply conditions that affect both. Intel pointed to headwinds in the PC industry and said it is working to unlock more supply, which could raise questions about PC demand and about how much chip supply is constrained across the sector. AMD sells in the same PC market and has its own client business, though its growth has recently come from data center. A drop of this size in a large chipmaker also tends to pull the group lower, as investors reduce exposure to stocks that have run up. AMD shares are up about 170% this year, according to TIKR. AMD and Meta Advance Their Partnership as Helios Racks Run at Meta On Oct. 27, AMD said its Helios rack-scale solutions are installed and being tested at Meta, on the path to a broader deployment in the near future. AMD EPYC processors power the computing environments behind Meta’s Muse AI agent, and AMD technologies provide Day-0 support for Meta models including Muse Spark Open and Muse Glimmer. Meta has deployed millions of EPYC processors and is a lead customer for the 6th Gen EPYC, and AMD Instinct GPUs are used in production in Meta’s training, ranking and recommendation systems. Meta will also deploy a custom AMD Instinct GPU based on the MI450 architecture. AMD will invest $1 billion in Meta’s equity offering. The partnership builds on a February agreement for Meta to deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs, which included a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million AMD shares. "With Helios now running at Meta, we are taking that partnership to a new scale in the superintelligence era," said Lisa Su, AMD’s chair and CEO. AMD Set to Report Nov. 3 Following Record-Revenue Quarter In the second quarter, AMD reported revenue of $11.54 billion, up 50%, and data center revenue of $6.7 billion, which more than doubled. AMD reports third-quarter results after the market closes on Nov. 3. Analysts estimate earnings per share of $1.95 and revenue of $13.09 billion. AMD Shares Slide AMD Price Action: At the time of publication, AMD shares are trading 8.02% lower at $521.00, according to data from Benzinga Pro .

Intel PC Demand Is Suffering From AI Buildout — Market Talk. Demand for Intel's products is wilting as a result of higher costs caused by the boom in artificial-intelligence spending, Amati Global Investors' Mikhail Zverev says. In third-quarter results announced Thursday after the closing bell, Intel forecast a prolonged slowdown in personal-computer sales. The AI boom means computer chips and other materials are more expensive, leading to higher prices for PCs, Zverev says. "To have such demand destruction because of the memory cost and availability, which obviously is caused by AI pull, just shows that AI is crowding out so many things in the digital economy." Intel shares plummet around 26% premarket, putting the company on track to lose around $125 billion of market value. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)

Meta, TikTok, X lose legal challenge against UK watchdog over online safety data demands. Meta META , TikTok and X on Friday lost a legal challenge against British regulator Ofcom over the amount of information it is demanding they provide under Britain's nascent online safety regime. The challenge is one of the first in relation to the 2023 Online Safety Act, which sets tougher standards for platforms such as TikTok, X and Meta's Facebook and Instagram with the aim to protect children from harmful and illegal content. Ofcom has been gradually implementing the regime, with its requirements backed up by the threat of fines of up to 10% of a company's global turnover for the most serious breaches. In February, it issued information notices requesting detailed content moderation metrics from the tech companies, including data on how many posts were removed or had visibility restricted, and how many users were exposed to harmful content. Meta, TikTok and X argued the notices create unprecedented regulatory burdens, but their case was rejected by London's High Court. None of the companies, nor Ofcom, immediately responded to requests for comment.

E2E Networks, Hitachi Energy India, Mtar Tech, other AI-related shares fall up to 5% amid global sell-off. Shares of E2E Networks, Hitachi Energy India, MTAR Technologies and other artificial intelligence (AI)-related companies fell by up to 5 percent on Friday, tracking a global sell-off in technology stocks amid concerns over rising spending on AI infrastructure and returns from such investments. Investors are also worried about rising borrowing costs as companies take on billions of dollars in debt to fund their AI expansion plans, while earnings growth has failed to match the scale of investments. Among AI-focused stocks in India, Netweb Technologies settled more than 5 percent lower at Rs 4,165 per share on the NSE. The company provides high-performance computing solutions, AI systems and data centre infrastructure, making it a key player in India's AI ecosystem. MTAR Technologies fell 5 percent to Rs 6,810 per share, while Black Box declined 3.5 percent to Rs 793 per share. E2E Networks hit its 5 percent lower circuit limit. ESDS Software Solution also touched its 5 percent lower circuit limit. E2E Networks and ESDS Software Solution provide cloud computing and data centre services, which support the infrastructure required for AI applications and computing workloads. MTAR Technologies supplies precision engineering products for various sectors, while Black Box provides technology infrastructure and digital solutions. The decline in Indian technology stocks came amid a broader sell-off in global technology shares following earnings announcements by major companies. Results from Amazon.com Inc. and Intel Corp. raised fresh concerns about capital expenditure on AI infrastructure. Alphabet Inc.'s shares also posted a record decline following its results announcement. "Tech earnings have proven a major hurdle with investors suddenly becoming capex vigilantes," Jai Malhi, a senior equity strategist at Vanda Research told Bloomberg. "With seemingly higher funding costs of capex, if revenue growth is not beating a high bar then tech names are being punished." Meanwhile, shares of power equipment companies linked to the AI infrastructure theme also declined in the domestic market. The expansion of AI infrastructure requires large investments in data centres, which need substantial power supply and related transmission and distribution equipment. Hitachi Energy India dropped 3.2 percent to Rs 27,225 per share. GE Vernova T&D India declined nearly 2 percent to Rs 4,020 per share, while CG Power and Industrial Solutions fell more than 3 percent to Rs 804 per share on the NSE. Anant Raj, which is expanding its presence in the data centre business in India, also declined amid selling in AI-related stocks. The company is developing data centre infrastructure to cater to growing demand for computing and storage capacity. Its shares fell nearly 4 percent to Rs 446 per share. The sell-off was also visible in Asian and US-listed technology stocks. Traders sold shares of Samsung Electronics Co. after the company reported earnings below estimates and delayed the release of its shareholder return plan. In the US, shares of companies linked to AI infrastructure tumbled in premarket trading. Chipmakers Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. fell 2.8 percent and 6.9 percent, respectively. Server and storage provider Super Micro Computer Inc. declined 5 percent, while power producer Bloom Energy Corp. fell 7 percent. Cloud computing firm CoreWeave Inc. was down 6 percent. The latest earnings announcements have added to concerns over whether heavy investments in AI infrastructure will generate returns quickly enough to justify the high valuations of technology companies.
