While the AI Trade Is Troubled, Microsoft Retains Its Fans on Wall Street — Barrons.com. By Kit Norton The artificial-intelligence trade concerns were swirling again on the back of disappointing Big Tech earnings. But Microsoft is at least one stock that Wall Street has been comfortable with. That trend has continued this week. It's been a brutal stretch for the AI trade as earnings from the tech giants have sparked a selloff of AI-related stocks. Alphabet logged its worst every daily percentage decline on Wednesday of 12.6% as the Google parent's core advertising business in search and YouTube faltered. Shares of Intel dropped 26% in the premarket session on Friday after the company's earnings late Thursday showed soaring cost of memory chips was taking a toll on the PC market. Then it was Amazon.com's turn and shares fell more than 6% in premarket trading on Friday after the company's quarterly earnings Thursday showed lagging growth in its legacy retail business and advertising segment. While many of the core drivers of AI spending have suffered this week, shares of Microsoft, which Wall Street has now long been confident about, have held up reasonably well. Microsoft stock declined 0.3% to $528.45 in premarket trading Friday after ending Thursday down 0.2%. Shares were on pace to close lower for a fourth consecutive trading session but the stock has only fallen about 1% over that stretch. The stock, as of Wednesday, was also about 2% below its record closing high of $543.45 on Oct. 13. It's a good sign for Microsoft investors that the shares have been able to weather the AI-trade turbulence this week. It's even better news that Wall Street has overwhelmingly remained bullish on Microsoft stock following the software giant's strong quarterly earnings and decision to hold a mega bond sale to raise capital, finally joining rivals in issuing debt for the AI buildout. Microsoft also recently announced it was offering 60,000 employees a voluntary exit to cut costs for its AI buildout. Since July 29, when Microsoft reported solid fiscal fourth-quarter earnings that illustrated to the stock market that the company's AI spending has been paying off, Wall Street has becoming increasingly optimistic about the business. That's based on the belief the company is well positioned to boost revenue through its cloud platform, Azure, and Copilot, its AI assistant tool. Microsoft's fiscal first-quarter earnings late Wednesday did nothing to change that view. Since then, 27 firms have raised price targets on Microsoft stock, according to FactSet. Among those was Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Wood, who raised his price target to $650 from $600. That represented 22% upside from the closing price of $530.14 on Thursday. Wood said in a research note that business growth from Azure and Copilot continues to accelerate and returns on AI investment are "clearly visible." "With growth accelerating, AI monetization broadening, and infrastructure efficiencies supporting operating leverage, we view the Q1 print as another clear validation of our thesis that Microsoft's AI investments can drive durable high-teens revenue growth and more than 20% earnings growth," Wood said. Morgan Stanley, which has an Overweight rating on Microsoft, wasn't alone in this view. Bank of America analyst Tal Liani this week raised his Microsoft price target to $630 from $600 and maintained a Buy rating on the shares. "MSFT's positioning across infrastructure, models, and software continues to provide multiple paths to monetize AI demand," Liani said in a research note. Not to be outdone, Raymond James analyst Andrew Marok also raised his price target to $650 from $630 and reiterated his Outperform rating on the stock. Marok noted that the business performance was "encouraging" and that Microsoft continues to work hard to "monetize existing capacity more efficiently despite ongoing supply constraints." "Although these improvements suggest that Microsoft is making meaningful progress on returns from its infrastructure investments, their timing remains difficult to forecast, and spending is expected to accelerate," the analyst said. Suffice it to say that it's all positive for Microsoft right now. The same can't be said for the rest of the tech giants. Infleqtion, Inc. (INFQ) Demos Optical Clock in U.S. Navy Exercise. Infleqtion demonstrated its Tiqker optical atomic clock during the Maritime Big Play Pacific exercise, running continuously for over two weeks at sea to support GPS-independent timing for naval navigation and communications. Material Details # Detail AI Analyst View 1 Tiqker ran >2 weeks at sea Extended operation under vibration/temperature stress de-risks field readiness and could accelerate defense adoption. 2 GPS-independent precision timing Addresses GPS-denied/jammed scenarios, a priority for Navy missions—supports potential procurement. 3 Tested across manned/unmanned ops Broader platform fit increases TAM across surface, subsea, and autonomous systems. 4 Supports comms/radar sync needs Integration into core ship systems can drive sticky, multi-unit deployments. 5 Builds on prior UK sea/air trials Cumulative trials signal maturation and international defense interest. Context by AI Analyst This is an operational validation step in Infleqtion’s push to commercialize quantum sensing for defense after prior UK trials. A defined procurement, pilot-to-program transition, or contract value disclosure would make this a larger catalyst. Infleqtion Demonstrates Timing and Navigation Capabilities During the Maritime Big Play Pacific Military Exercise. Infleqtion ( INFQ ), a global leader in quantum computing and quantum sensing powered by neutral atom technology, demonstrated quantum timing capabilities to support navigation using the company’s Tiqker optical atomic clock. The demonstration took place during the Maritime Big Play Pacific (MBP-P) military exercise, an event sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research & Engineering with participation from across the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and Australia and UK (AUKUS) partners. During this exercise, Infleqtion operated Tiqker continuously aboard the U.S. Navy support vessel, RV Merlin, for two weeks in the Southern California (SOCAL) operating area. This demonstration also supported BARB-26, a U.S. Navy exercise focused on emerging subsea and seabed warfare capabilities, in alignment with MBP-P. The demonstration provided an opportunity to evaluate precision timing technology in a maritime operational environment and inform future naval integration. “The Navy needs dependable timing to navigate, communicate and coordinate operations in the field,” said Matthew Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion. “The Maritime Big Play Pacific and BARB-26 demonstration gives us an opportunity to put Tiqker through sustained testing at sea and gather the operational data needed to advance its integration into naval platforms. This is an important step toward validating quantum capabilities for real-world applications.” The exercise was conducted to demonstrate Tiqker's mission impact across a range of operational conditions, above and below the surface, and with both manned and unmanned systems. Tiqker operated continuously for over two weeks at sea through large temperature swings and sustained vibration. Ultimately, the exercise helps show how precision timing, independent of GPS, keeps the Navy operating when it matters most. For forward-deployed, expeditionary forces, that reliability supports the Joint Force’s ability to project power and deter adversaries. Tiqker is Infleqtion’s compact, rugged optical atomic clock, which uses the precise optical transitions of atoms to provide a highly stable timing reference. Designed for deployment beyond the laboratory, Tiqker can maintain precise local timing when GPS signals are unavailable, jammed, or spoofed. For the Navy, that capability can support synchronization of communications, radar, and other onboard systems. By reducing dependence on satellite-derived timing, Tiqker can help strengthen mission continuity across multiple platforms. The demonstration builds on Tiqker’s previous trials at sea and in the air, including a 2025 deployment aboard the UK Royal Navy’s uncrewed submarine testbed, XV Excalibur, where it operated during multiple dives. Tiqker also completed UK flight trials in 2024 aboard QinetiQ’s RJ100 Airborne Technology Demonstrator, in collaboration with QinetiQ and BAE Systems. Nasdaq set for sharp drop as Amazon, Intel amplify AI spending worries. By Shashwat Chauhan and Tharuniyaa Lakshmi The tech-heavy Nasdaq was set for steep losses at Friday's open after Amazon's aggressive AI spending plan and Intel's cash burn warning intensified investor concerns about escalating costs of AI infrastructure buildout and the timeline for returns. Shares of Amazon.com AMZN were down 6.5% in premarket trading after the company reported a sharp cash outflow in the third quarter and signaled another increase in capital expenditure next year, on top of already elevated outlays. Intel INTC tanked more than 25% after the chipmaker warned it would burn cash this year due to a weak market for personal computers, manufacturing bottlenecks and heavy spending to expand production. Several companies have tapped the bond market to finance their hefty AI investments, fueling concerns that higher borrowing costs could make such spending harder to justify. Amazon and Intel were set to wipe out about $300 billion in combined market value, if losses hold, putting the Nasdaq-100 NDX on track to erase roughly $1 trillion. That would add to the index's close to $1.4 trillion loss in market value so far this month. "It's more a question of what is priced into a stock and how much investors are expecting. Alphabet, Amazon and Intel fall into the category where it doesn't take much to trigger a significant disappointment, and the punishment can be pretty harsh," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth. "I don't think this is a broader reset... It's more of a rotation out of an extremely popular technology trade and into safer havens." Alphabet GOOG slipped 1%, after a record selloff in the previous session when the Google parent reported disappointing results in its search-advertising business and a sharp increase in cash outflows. Meta META also reported cash burn in the September quarter, while Microsoft MSFT stood out by delivering a big cash-flow beat, though it raised $25 billion through a debt sale. The broader semiconductor market, too, was under pressure, with Nvidia NVDA down 3.2% and AMD AMD sliding 8.3%. Server makers Dell DELL and HP HPQ lost 11.8% and 9.5%, respectively. Energy giants Chevron CVX and Exxon Mobil XOM rose 1.6% and 2%, respectively, after reporting third-quarter profits above estimates. At 08:15 a.m. ET, Dow E-minis (YMcv1) were down 42 points, or 0.08%, S&P 500 E-minis (EScv1) were down 86.5 points, or 1.12%, and Nasdaq 100 E-minis NQ1! were down 768.75 points, or 2.6%. The S&P 500 CBOE:SPX and the Nasdaq IXIC were on course for weekly gains, as the AI trade got a brief reprieve earlier this week when Anthropic unveiled its US IPO filing. The Nasdaq, however, was set to break a two-month winning streak in October, while the S&P 500 and Dow DJI remained on track for gains. Nine of the 11 S&P 500 sectors were set for monthly gains, barring communication services S5TELS , which was headed for its worst month since April 2022, and technology S5INFT . The concerns around AI spending coincide with expectations that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates by more than 50 basis points by mid-2027, according to LSEG data, even after the central bank held rates steady earlier this week, as expected. Among others, social media platform Reddit RDDT slid 21.7% after CEO Steve Huffman warned that total daily active unique visitors could fall by a low double-digit percentage in the fourth quarter.

Robinhood Stock Falls as Record $6.3 Billion Binance Hack Rattles Crypto. Robinhood Markets Inc. HOOD shares are trading lower Friday amid a fall in cryptocurrencies after Binance disclosed the largest crypto hack on record. Crypto is a meaningful part of Robinhood’s revenue. Binance Discloses Record $6.3 Billion Hack, Crypto Prices Fall Binance said about $6.3 billion in funds were stolen in a security breach, surpassing the previous record of $1.5 billion taken from Bybit in February 2025. The exchange suspended deposits and withdrawals and said it would cover all losses. About $3 billion has been frozen on-chain, including more than $1.5 billion in USDT frozen by Tether and over $800 million in USDC frozen by Circle. Binance said an initial investigation points to a compromised engineer’s laptop, while blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the attack to North Korean hackers. Crypto prices fell on the news, with ether down 5.7%, BNB down 8.2%, XRP down 7.4% and Solana down 7% in early trading, according to CoinDesk, which also reported $1.57 billion in liquidations. Why a Crypto Selloff Matters for Robinhood Robinhood lets customers buy and sell crypto, and it earns transaction revenue each time they do. Crypto brought in $120 million in the third quarter, about 8% of Robinhood’s record $1.424 billion in total revenue, though it was down 55% from a year earlier. Transaction-based revenue rose 19% to $867 million, with crypto’s decline offsetting gains in event contracts, options and equities. A sustained drop in crypto prices, or a weakened confidence in exchanges following the hack, could reduce trading volumes and related revenue. Robinhood is less dependent on crypto trading than in prior years. Options brought in $399 million in the quarter, event contracts contributed $173 million and equities added $121 million. CFO Shiv Verma told CNBC that event contracts tied to crypto price moves performed well in the quarter, giving customers another way to express a view on crypto, so swings in prices don’t necessarily hurt all of Robinhood’s crypto-related activity. Robinhood has not been implicated in reports surrounding the Binance hack. Robinhood Shares Drop HOOD Price Action: At the time of publication, Robinhood shares are trading 6.66% lower at $85.49, according to data from Benzinga Pro .
