QUICK SPARK: Intel Stock Drops 28%, Eyes Worst Day Since July 1974. Intel Corp. INTC is having its worst day in more than half a century. Shares fell 29.1% to $65.25 in Friday morning trading, on track for the steepest one-day drop since July 1974. That would top the 26% slide in August 2024, previously the stock’s worst session in five decades. Chart: Intel Corp. daily price change since 1973. Source: TradingView The chipmaker beat third-quarter estimates. However, it guided fourth-quarter revenue to about $15.5 billion and adjusted earnings to 25 cents a share. Wall Street had expected roughly $17 billion and 43 cents. Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya downgraded Intel to Neutral from Buy and cut his price objective to $100 from $145. He said Intel’s “agentic tide” in data center chips is “more than offset by PC/supply headwinds.” Arya expects PC shipments to drop 25% to 30% from the prior quarter in the fourth quarter, with more inventory correction in the first half of 2027. He also said Intel has not shown enough traction with external foundry customers. As a result, he cut his 2027 earnings estimate by 16% to $1.69 a share. He was not alone. According to Benzinga Analyst Ratings , Seaport Global and Roth Capital also cut Intel to Neutral on Friday, while seven firms lowered their price targets. KGI Securities went the other way, upgrading the stock to Outperform. DEUTSCHE BANK WARNS AI SELLOFF COULD WEAKEN US DOLLAR Deutsche Bank warns the US dollar may lose its traditional safe-haven status during an AI-driven stock market correction. Foreign investors hold over $20 trillion in US equities, with roughly 90% of that value attributed to price appreciation. According to strategist George Saravelos, a US-led technology selloff could push stocks and the dollar lower simultaneously, potentially triggering increased currency hedging by foreign investors. The key takeaway: An AI-driven market correction could create a double hit to US equities and the dollar, challenging traditional safe-haven assumptions.

T-Mobile Says No to Elon Musk's Disruption Bid on Verizon, AT&T. Elon Musk ’s push to turn Space Exploration Technologies Corp. SPCX into a full-fledged wireless carrier is running into resistance from one of the companies whose network could have helped him get there. T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS CEO Srini Gopalan has ruled out an arrangement that would let SpaceX operate as a mobile virtual network operator, closing off a potential shortcut as the satellite company moves closer to competing with Verizon Communications Inc. VZ and AT&T Inc. T . T-Mobile Draws a Line Speaking on T-Mobile’s Oct. 28 earnings call , Gopalan said he saw "no room for an MVNO with SpaceX," either on the consumer side or in physical and edge artificial intelligence. An MVNO sells wireless service using another carrier’s network. Such a deal could have given SpaceX a faster route into the mobile market as it develops its own infrastructure. Gopalan said T-Mobile evaluates MVNO deals based on whether they bring new customers, distribution channels or capabilities. He views satellite connectivity as complementary to traditional wireless service, but said that does not justify a broader network arrangement. "If it’s a complementary product, I’m very happy to look at a resale arrangement," he said. "But an MVNO is a wholly different thing." SpaceX Wants Its Own Network The rejection comes as SpaceX explores a bigger role in U.S. wireless. Reuters reported that the company was in talks to secure access to at least 80,000 cell sites, potentially laying the groundwork for a fourth nationwide wireless carrier. The discussions followed SpaceX’s acquisition of low-band spectrum, which could help it connect phones over a terrestrial network. Reuters also reported that TD Cowen estimates a nationwide buildout could cost more than $80 billion and take years. SpaceX would need substantial ground infrastructure to compete directly with established carriers. A Rival, Not Just a Partner For T-Mobile, the distinction is strategic. Gopalan said satellite service can fill coverage gaps, but argued that T-Mobile’s fixed wireless access business and urban network offer little reason to fold a satellite provider into its core wireless operation. He left room for commercial arrangements in which SpaceX could be a customer or supplier. The decision does not stop SpaceX from building a competing network. It does remove one possible route to market and shows that established carriers may be reluctant to help a potential rival scale. For investors, the threat is real but not immediate: analysts have warned that SpaceX’s network ambitions could take years and billions of dollars to materialize. T-Mobile’s refusal is an early sign of how difficult it may be for a new entrant to secure the partnerships needed to challenge wireless incumbents.

Nvidia Stock Is Set for Its Worst Month in a Year. Time to Buy the Dip. — Barrons.com. By Jack Denton There's nothing like stock market carnage to clarify genuine investor optimism. Nvidia stock tumbled 3% Friday, falling along with other chipmakers as the wider tech sector sold off. Chip stocks have had a rough go amid worries over debt and the sustainability of artificial-intelligence spending. The latest declines were triggered by earnings from Amazon.com and Intel, both of which spooked investors over cash flow concerns. For Nvidia investors, this might be the time to buy the dip. Nvidia stock is trading at its lowest levels since early August and, if early action on Friday is anything to go by, is set to close out October with a decline of more than 9%. That would mark the worst month since November 2025, when it fell 12.6%. Nvidia stock is on track for its worst performance in the first 10 months of a year since 2022, up just 11% in 2026 so far. The fact remains that, if investors liked Nvidia a month ago, they should still like it today. Wall Street certainly agrees. Despite its drop over the last month, 96% of analysts surveyed by FactSet rated Nvidia stock a Buy, with an average target price of $334, which implies the shares could climb more than 60% from their current level. Barron's has previously reported that the chip stock chaos is likely to, above all else, sort the winners from the losers. No matter the pinch Nvidia stock has felt in recent weeks — and no matter that debt and AI spending are significant considerations — the chipmaker remains at the top of the AI game. Semiconductor Stocks Fall as Intel Earnings Trigger Broad Tech Selloff — Update. By Connor Hart Semiconductor shares broadly fell following disappointing results and a downbeat outlook from Intel, along with an earnings miss from Amazon, which fueled fresh concerns around the artificial intelligence trade. The selloff rippled across the sector, hitting equipment manufacturers, foundries and analog suppliers. Broadcom shares were down nearly 5% in morning trading Friday, while Advanced Micro Devices plunged nearly 10%. Shares of Micron Technology slipped 4.4%. The rout follows Intel's earnings on Thursday, when the company gave soft fourth-quarter guidance and forecast a prolonged slowdown in personal-computer sales, mostly because of high memory-chip prices. Intel's stock lost more than a quarter of its value Friday, erasing more than $120 billion from the company's market capitalization. Wafer fab equipment makers were down, with Applied Materials down over 5% and Lam Research slipping 5.3%. The sector is susceptible to chipmakers' concerns over spending and memory and logic spending cuts. Meanwhile, Qualcomm was trading lower in sympathy with broader wireless and handset demand with fears over enterprise hardware sluggishness and smartphone demand bottlenecks. CoreWeave, whose stock has been struggling due to concerns over its bonds and has a rapidly growing need for data centers to host that computing, fell 8.9% on Friday. Shares of Nvidia and Oracle were both down more than 3%. The chip pullback comes after a bruising week for Big Tech and AI stocks. Over the past week, investors became uneasy following earnings reports from Alphabet, Amazon and Meta Platforms, which fueled concerns about the payoff from AI-infrastructure spending. Alphabet's stock suffered its worst day on record Thursday, losing roughly $500 million in market value, after the tech giant said Google's search revenue growth waned due to the less lucrative nature of AI searches. Meanwhile, shares of Amazon were about 1.5% lower on Friday, after the company's third-quarter revenue and net income missed analysts' estimates. Overall free cash flow plunged to a $42.4 billion outflow. The reports came on the heels of Meta, which last week said it plans to continue spending "aggressively" on AI. The company unveiled plans to raise up to $95 billion in waves of stock offerings to fund its unending AI investments, including creating a new class of nonvoting stock in an at-the-market stock offering program of up to $60 billion. Meta's free cash flow also went into negative territory for the first time since it became a public company last week, although analysts had expected a stronger downturn. The company reported negative free cash flow of $2.1 billion versus analyst projections of negative $9.4 billion. Write to Connor Hart at connor.hart@wsj.com

How Stock Wipeouts for Alphabet and Intel Compare With the Top One-Day Losses — WSJ. By Ed Ballard Intel stock tumbled 29% this morning due to a slumping PC market, putting the company on course to see more than $140 billion of market value erased. It's an astounding loss-but not nearly big enough to make the all-time list of mega market-cap wipeouts. It's a different story for Alphabet, which shed nearly $500 billion in market value yesterday as investors confronted the reality that AI is threatening the company's core search business. That was the second-worst day on record for a U.S. company, as measured by evaporated market value. The list is dominated by recent moments when the AI trade blew a gasket. The worst day ever? That was Nvidia, back in January last year, when investors freaked out about Chinese AI upstart DeepSeek and its low-cost models. Concerns about low-cost competitors to the likes of Anthropic and OpenAI remain one of the clouds hanging over the AI investment boom. If Intel closes at its current levels, it wouldn't even sneak into the top-100 all time losses. America has a lot of valuable companies, and sooner or later everybody has a bad day. Marvell Rumored to Buy Lumentum in Major Challenge to Broadcom: Counterpoint. Marvell Technology Inc. MRVL could significantly expand its position in AI data-center networking through a rumored acquisition of Lumentum Holdings Inc. LITE , giving the chipmaker greater control over critical optical components as the industry shifts toward co-packaged optics. Counterpoint Research Associate Director Gareth Owen said on Thursday that a potential Marvell acquisition of Lumentum would help the chipmaker protect its position as AI data-center networking shifts from copper toward co-packaged optics. CPO Shift Creates Strategic Rationale Owen said Marvell risks losing some DSP demand as optics moves closer to XPUs and switch ASICs. Acquiring Lumentum would give Marvell exposure to optical links that do not use DSPs and broaden its position across AI networking interconnects. He highlighted Lumentum’s indium phosphide laser fabs as a major strategic asset. Lumentum and Coherent control most global InP capacity, while new fabs take years to build. Because Marvell already buys lasers from Lumentum, owning those facilities could secure access to a scarce component used across AI optical links. Deal Would Broaden Marvell’s Optical Portfolio Owen said the deal would also complement Marvell’s silicon portfolio by adding CW and EML lasers, NPO/CPO optics, optical circuit switching and transceiver modules. He noted that the acquisition would extend Marvell’s photonics strategy following its $5.5 billion Celestial AI acquisition earlier this year. Vertical Integration Could Strengthen Competition If completed, Owen said the transaction could make Marvell one of the few suppliers spanning both the electrical and optical sides of AI networking, while simplifying its supply chain and strengthening its position against Broadcom Inc. AVGO , Coherent Corp. COHR and Chinese optical-module vendors. However, he also flagged potential risks. A transaction of this scale could face regulatory scrutiny because of Lumentum’s role in a strategically important supply chain, while some module vendors that currently rely on Marvell DSPs could shift toward alternatives such as Broadcom or Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd. CRDO . Price Action: Lumentum Holdings shares were down 9.6% at $831.23 and Marvell Technology shares were down 6.9% at $203.30 in early trading on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data .

Bears Load Up on Ondas, Dutch Bros and 8 More Stocks — Is a Squeeze Brewing. Short sellers have piled into 10 stocks valued at $2 billion or more, and the crowding has reached extreme levels. Screener data reviewed Friday morning shows short interest above 34% of the float for every name on the list. Heavy short interest carries real risk short sellers who profit when a stock falls. A surprise rally, however, can force them to buy back shares to limit losses, and the rush to cover can send prices sharply higher in a short squeeze. ONDS stock is heavily shorted. Get all the details here. Here are the most heavily shorted stocks (with market caps above $2 billion and 14-day average trading volumes of at least 1 million shares) as Friday, according to data from Benzinga Pro . ONDS follows at 43.86%. Ondas stands apart on trading activity. Its 14-day average volume of 61.94 million shares tops every other stock in the group by a wide margin. The Rest of the Pack Under Armour Inc. UAA and Kohl’s Corp. KSS both carry short interest above 40%. Beam Therapeutics Inc. BEAM and Charter Communications Inc. CHTR sit just below 40%, separated by less than half a percentage point. Navan Inc. NAVN and Acadia Healthcare Co. Inc. ACHC round out the top 10 at 36.11% and 34.54%, respectively. A Shaky Backdrop Megacap earnings have rattled the market all week. Alphabet Inc. GOOG GOOGL shares tanked Thursday after the company reported worse-than-expected earnings , revenue and capital spending, along with negative free cash flow of $9.07 billion. Friday brought more pain. Amazon.com Inc. AMZN slid 7% and Intel Corp. INTC sank 28% in early trading after both reported quarterly numbers that disappointed investors, pulling the Nasdaq down. Amazon missed on both earnings and revenue, while Intel issued guidance below expectations. Crypto offered no relief. Binance halted trading Thursday after hackers allegedly linked to North Korea stole more than $6 billion, the largest crypto hack in history. The exchange said an initial investigation tied the breach to a compromised laptop belonging to one of its engineers, and co-founder Yi He pledged Binance will cover all hacking losses.
