Investors Demand High Rates to Buy New Oracle Bonds — WSJ. By Sam Goldfarb Oracle is being forced to pay up to complete its latest bond sale-the last that it plans to do over the next few years to fund new projects rather than just repay old debt. Oracle's $10 billion issuance includes a $1.75 billion of new five year bonds, which will carry an initial extra yield, or spread, over Treasurys of 2.75 percentage points, according to investors. That was comfortably above the spread of its existing 5-year bonds and larger than the roughly 2.3 percentage point spread investors could get on average from double-B rated bonds with similar maturities as of Friday, according to Bloomberg data. Oracle still has triple-B ratings from the major ratings firms, at the bottom tier of investment-grade territory. Oracle also announced on Monday that it was issuing $10 billion in common stock. The company, which is spending heavily on AI infrastructure, said last week that it wouldn't raise more than $20 billion in additional funding in capital markets through fiscal 2030. It is expected to keep issuing bonds for refinancing purposes. Its shares were down nearly 9% in recent trading. This item is part of a Wall Street Journal live coverage event. This Earnings Season's Biggest Beats Are Coming From Outside Tech — Barrons.com. By Connor Smith Wall Street loves an earnings beat, but tech stocks and the Magnificent Seven are barely clearing the bar this season. That's according to an analysis of earnings data by Wells Fargo chief equity strategist Ohsung Kwon and his colleagues. Through Oct. 30, the companies that have reported third-quarter earnings per share have beaten expectations by 3% on average. Excluding the Magnificent Seven stocks and the S&P 500 technology sector, earnings have beaten expectations by 5.1% on average. The tech and Mag 7 group has beaten expectations by just 0.3%. That could help explain why Wall Street has soured on AI stocks and shifted to defensives in recent weeks. Leading the earnings surprises are energy, beating expectations by 16.3% on average, and utilities and industrials, which are beating expectations by 7.4% and 7.2%, respectively, on average. Revenue surprises have been led by energy, health care, and industrials, while real estate, financials, and utilities have lagged. "This is the last busy week of EPS, with 21% of SPX market cap reporting led by defensives: 45% of Utilities and 22% of Health Care," writes Kwon. "Following the big rotation into defensives, we now believe it's time to pick stocks within those sectors, especially in areas like Pharma, Biotech & Life Science that outperformed by 12ppt over the past month." Since Oct. 12, the day before big banks kicked off earnings season, consumer staples, health care, materials, utilities and financials are all up 4% or more, according to Dow Jones Market Data. On the flip side, communication services, down 15.8%, and tech, down 8.1%, have been hammered. Through last week, 160 stocks had risen in the trading session following their earnings releases, compared with 143 that had declined. In the trading session after reporting results, industrial stocks have risen 61% of the time this season, while 53.3% of financial stocks closed higher. Tech and communication services each saw more than 60% of reporting stocks close lower, according to Dow Jones Market Data. "Now that capital spending expectations have flatlined for CY 2026 and investors are focusing more on profitability from the AI Buildout, the AI Trade has become a 'show me' story," writes Chris Senyek of Wolfe Research. "Said differently, our sense is that the Tech trade is now beholden to technical trading factors including signs of a wash-out as investors lock in gains for the year." Although technology and AI-related companies may have delivered smaller earnings surprises, they are still the S&P 500's growth drivers: the tech sector accounts for 52.3% of the index's estimated full-year earnings growth this year, according to Senyek. Nvidia, for example, is expected to contribute 15% of the index's earnings growth this year. Other large expected contributors are Micron Technology, Broadcom, ExxonMobil, EchoStar, and Microsoft. Senyek thinks stocks can rally into year-end if Nvidia's earnings and Anthropic's planned IPO serve as positive catalysts and oil prices don't spike. The Last Safe Haven Reports: Everything You Need To Know Ahead Of Apple Earnings
Super Micro Stock Slips: What's Going On. Super Micro Computer Inc . SMCI shares are falling Monday, a day ahead of its fiscal first-quarter earnings report, as concerns about AI spending weigh on data center stocks . Super Micro Computer stock is showing notable weakness. Why is SMCI stock dropping? Super Micro Stock Falls Ahead of Earnings The earnings report is due after the market closes on Tuesday, November 3. Wall Street projects earnings of $1.23 per share on revenue of $16.39 billion. AI worries may be part of the story. Bubble fears hit data center stocks Monday even as the broader market rose, and Friday’s earnings misses from Amazon and Intel deepened concerns about AI infrastructure spending. What Super Micro Reported Last Quarter Super Micro’s August report gave investors a mixed picture. Profit of $1.70 a share beat the 62-cent estimate by a wide margin. Analysts had expected $12.33 billion in sales, but Super Micro reported $11.12 billion. A year before, the figure was $5.76 billion, so sales nearly doubled. CEO Charles Liang said the past year brought hundreds of new customers, enterprise businesses among them, and over $60 billion of new orders. That left Super Micro with the biggest backlog in its history as fiscal 2027 began. Liang added that selling more to enterprise customers, and getting more buyers to adopt its modular data center designs, is lifting profitability. What a Beat or Miss Would Mean for Super Micro Super Micro told investors last quarter to expect an adjusted first-quarter profit between $1.01 and $1.10 a share and sales between $14.5 billion and $15.5 billion. Analysts are asking for more. Their $1.23 profit estimate sits 13 cents above the top of that range, and their $16.39 billion sales estimate sits $890 million above it. Results above the estimates would show demand outrunning even that guidance and could extend the earnings beat. Results below them would count as a miss, even if they land inside Super Micro’s own range. A sales shortfall would also repeat last quarter’s pattern. SMCI Shares Are Slipping SMCI Price Action: Super Micro shares were down 7.28% at $30.56 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro .

Tech companies tap debt, equity to fund AI and cloud expansion. The world's largest technology companies are tapping debt markets and raising equity to bolster AI infrastructure, marking a shift for Silicon Valley firms that typically relied on cash to fund their investments. Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Meta have signaled that spending on AI would not slow down. Tech giants' combined spending is set to exceed $730 billion this year, up from about $700 billion previously. The AI boom has entered a "more dangerous phase," marked by exponentially rising investments in physical infrastructure and growing reliance on outside capital, according to an analysis by Bridgewater Associates in February. META PLATFORMS Meta META is eyeing at least $20 billion from a potential cross-border bond offering, Bloomberg News reported in November. The company had earlier announced plans for its largest-ever equity offerings of around $97.5 billion. The offerings include stock sales of about $37.5 billion it priced last week, and plans to later raise up to $60 billion through an at-the-market share-sale program. The social media giant has also tightened its annual capital expenditure range to $135 billion to $145 billion, from between $130 billion and $145 billion. Meta had also raised $30 billion in a bond offering last year, and in April sold investment-grade bonds worth $25 billion. Particulars Value Debt outstanding $84 billion Cash and cash equivalents $11.22 billion Next bond payment $2.66 billion due on August 15, 2027 SPACEX SpaceX SPCX said in October it had signed an agreement with Apollo Global Management APO , under which an affiliate of the investment firm will buy AI chips and servers to lease them to the Elon Musk-led company, with total principal payments of about $40 billion. Before the deal's announcement, Musk had said in an X post that SpaceX "closed" $40 billion in debt financing for graphics processing units. Musk said the funding mainly targets chips arriving in the first and second quarters and would not be "a major factor this quarter." Also in October, the rocket firm's finance chief, Bret Johnsen, said the company still expects fourth-quarter capital expenditure of $35 billion to $40 billion. Particulars Value Debt outstanding $25.03 billion Cash and cash equivalents $51.29 billion Next bond payment $700 million due on December 15, 2027 AMAZON Amazon.com is looking to raise at least $25 billion from the US bond market, Bloomberg News reported in July, citing people familiar with the matter. The tech giant filed for an eight-part offering of floating and fixed-rate notes, according to a regulatory filing. Amazon is issuing senior unsecured bonds, with maturities ranging from three to 40 years, as per a term sheet seen by Reuters. In June, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing that it has issued C$14 billion of Canadian dollar-denominated notes, marking a record size for the Canadian corporate bond market. It is also preparing to issue a six-part bond offering in Swiss franc denomination for the first time, a person familiar with the matter had told Reuters in May. Separately, the e-commerce giant is looking to raise about $37 billion in an 11-part bond sale, according to a term sheet seen by Reuters in March. Particulars Value Debt outstanding $162.57 billion Cash and cash equivalents $55.78 billion Next bond payment $2 billion due on April 13, 2027 NVIDIA Nvidia NVDA had said in June it would raise $25 billion through a US bond issuance, as it taps the debt market to increase liquidity for the first time since 2021. Oracle in February said it expects to raise $45 billion to $50 billion in 2026 in a combination of debt and stock to build additional capacity for its cloud infrastructure. The cloud company was sued in January by bondholders who said they suffered losses because the company failed to disclose it needed to sell significant additional debt to build out its AI infrastructure. In September 2025, the company, chaired by Larry Ellison, filed to raise about $18 billion in debt in a six-part offering to fund AI infrastructure, after investing billions in 2025. In June, the company said it was looking to raise $80 billion in equity offerings, including an investment from Berkshire Hathaway BRK.A . It increased the size of its equity offerings to $84.75 billion after seeing strong investor demand. Alphabet also issued Japanese yen-denominated bonds for the first time, it disclosed in a filing in May. The issuance was expected to total several hundred billion yen, a source with direct knowledge of the deal had said.
