Apple Seen as Insulated From AI Fears With Sales Set to Rise — Earnings Preview. By Katherine Hamilton Apple is scheduled to report its fiscal fourth-quarter financial results after the market closes on Monday. Here is what to know: REVENUE: The iPhone maker is expected to report $113.40 billion of sales, compared with $102.47 billion in the prior-year quarter, according to FactSet. NET PROFIT: The Cupertino, Calif.-based company is forecasted to post a profit of $29.10 billion, compared with $27.47 billion a year ago, according to FactSet. ADJUSTED EARNINGS PER SHARE: Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $2.24 a share, compared with $2.03 a share in same quarter a year ago. The stock has gained 27% this year, and recently traded at $344.63. WHAT TO WATCH: Apple has been one of the more insulated tech companies during a widespread selloff of AI-related stocks in recent weeks. Apple's spending around AI projects has been more conservative by comparison to peers such as Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft. That strategy has been paying off for the stock's value in recent weeks, as investors are fleeing to safer securities amid concerns about high AI spending. Chief Executive John Ternus stepped into his role in September, and Monday's earnings call will be his first as the company's new leader. Tetanus is setting a cadence of steady silicon-led hardware refreshes, most recently with a new Macbook launch, analyst Dan Ives says. Apple also released the Duo this month, its first smart phone with a foldable screen. There have been reports of display issues with the new product and there are high wait times for customers ordering the phone, UBS analysts say. The analysts are watching wait times closely because they believe that if the time gets shorter for the Duo, while remaining longer for the Pro and Pro Max, it may indicate consumers are waiting for a second-generation foldable before buying. Berkshire's Alphabet Loss Highlights a Tough Decade for Its New Stock Picks — Barrons.com. By Andrew Bary Berkshire Hathaway's likely loss on its Alphabet investment highlights a disappointing trend in its stock picking. The company hasn't created much value from stock picking during the current decade despite a favorable backdrop. The S&P 500 has returned 150% since the end of 2019 and tech stocks have quadrupled. The decade is shaping up as one of missed opportunities and ill-timed sales for Berkshire with its $360 billion equity portfolio. Berkshire's equity market value is around $1.2 trillion. Berkshire's best new investment was in a group of five Japanese trading companies it began buying around 2020 and whose combined stake value has more than doubled to almost $45 billion. Chevron is the other notable winner as the stock also has risen more than 100% since 2020 and Berkshire's stake now is valued at $20 billion. Chubb is up about 50% since Berkshire bought the stock about three years ago. These investments have scored but Berkshire would have done about as well buying the S&P 500. There have been plenty of losers or simply mediocre investments that have been closed out. These include Verizon Communications, HP, Paramount, General Motors, Constellation Brands and Pool. Berkshire also has accumulated a 26% stake in Occidental Petroleum since 2022 that's now worth about $16 billion. Even with the rally in oil stocks this year, Berkshire is up about 20% from its original cost, Barron's estimates, far behind most energy stocks. Occidental is one of the worst-performing stocks in the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF since 2022. Then there have been badly timed sales, notably Apple. Berkshire held over 900 million shares of Apple in 2023 and has steadily cut that stake by about 75% to 228 million shares at an average sale price that Barron's estimates is around $200 a share, against the current $340. Berkshire also sold out of a group of bank stocks — including JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs Group — between 2020 and 2023 at about a third of their current prices. Former CEO Warren Buffett built Berkshire over the first three decades of his control from 1965 to 1995 on the back of successful stock investments like Coca-Cola and American Express and is widely regarded as one of the greatest stock-market investors ever. Buffett, 96, is a 20th-century investor whose outlook was shaped by his association with Ben Graham, a great value investor and Buffett's mentor. Aside from Apple, he hasn't been able to take much advantage of the tech boom and neither have his investment lieutenants — Ted Weschler and Todd Combs, who left Berkshire for an investment role at JPMorgan Chase at year-end 2025. Buffett also has missed investment opportunities that are more in his wheelhouse, like General Electric and Eli Lilly. Berkshire's long-standing investments have powered its $360 billion portfolio in recent years. These include American Express and Coca-Cola — both bought between 30 and 40 years ago — as well as Moody's and Apple, which remains Berkshire's largest equity investment at over $75 billion. American Express and Coke are second and third in the portfolio at $48 billion and $38 billion. On the Alphabet stake, Barron's estimates that Berkshire has an unrealized loss of about $3 billion after the stock fell around 10% last week to $278 after disappointing earnings. Berkshire holds some 106 million Alphabet shares now worth $30 billion, and we estimate its cost basis is over $300 a share, including $10 billion of stock purchased at around $350 in June as part of Alphabet's $85 billion equity-raising plan in June. Berkshire may have been late to the Alphabet party — ironic considering that Buffett and former Berkshire vice chairman Charlie Munger talked about the appeal of the Alphabet business model a decade or more ago. What's the future of the equity portfolio under CEO Greg Abel, who succeeded Buffett as CEO at the start of 2026. Abel wants to keep what he sees as core investments intact. These are Apple, Coke, Moody's and American Express. But it's unclear whether he sees an opportunity to create much new value from the equity portfolio, rather than improving Berkshire's operations and making acquisitions like homebuilder Taylor Morrison and chemicals business OxyChem. Weschler manages about 6% of Berkshire's investments, according to Abel's latest shareholder letter. Buffett originally planned to have Weschler and Combs run the entire portfolio when he retired as CEO, but that plan changed. Abel hasn't replaced Combs and Berkshire has made few new equity purchases this year aside from Alphabet. Buffett, who initiated the Alphabet purchase, stepped down as chairman in favor of his son Howard Buffett in September. That raises the question of how active he will be with the equity portfolio at 96. Even with missed opportunities and badly timed sales, Berkshire's stock has beaten the S&P 500 over the past five years with a 13.5% annualized return against 12% for the index. Berkshire is behind the index, 14.2% annualized to 15.3%, over the past 10 years. The stock hit a record high Monday with the A shares now trading at $825,000, up more than 10% this year. The stock probably would be doing even better if Berkshire had better capitalized on new equity investments in recent years. Berkshire's third-quarter U.S. equity holdings probably will be disclosed on Nov. 16 in its quarterly Form 13F filing. That could indicate whether Berkshire took advantage of the selloff in many non-tech companies in the period to accumulate new stock positions. Don't bet on it, given the limited activity in the first half of the year. Barring a market rout, equity investing may not be central to Berkshire anymore. And if any new Berkshire holdings are revealed soon, it may not be a good idea to buy them. The record hasn't been great. QUICK SPARK: Marvell Stock Eyes Worst 3-Day Drop Since September 2001. Marvell Technology Inc. MRVL just agreed to the biggest deal in its history. Shareholders are answering with the stock’s worst sell-off in a generation. Shares fell 7.4% to about $182 on Monday, extending a three-day slide to 27.7%. That puts Marvell on track for its steepest three-session drop since Sept. 27, 2001, deeper than the 27.2% plunge of March 2025. The selling began Oct. 29, after reports surfaced that Marvell was in talks to buy Lumentum Holdings Inc. LITE . On Monday, the company confirmed an all-stock deal valuing the laser maker at $115 billion. Lumentum holders will receive 4.5 Marvell shares each and own about a third of the combined company. As a result, existing investors face heavy dilution. Roughly $61 billion of Marvell’s market value has vanished since Oct. 28. Meanwhile, the VanEck Semiconductor ETF SMH edged up 0.2%. From Tech Stocks to Staples: October Delivers Wall Street's Biggest Sector Rotation Since Dot-Com Bubble Burst. In February 2001, technology stocks lost a quarter of their value as the dot-com bubble deflated . For more than 25 years, no month came close to repeating that sector rotation. Then came October. The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE: XLK ) fell 8.3%–its worst month since March 2025. Investors dumped the companies powering the AI boom. Instead, they rotated money toward consumer staples, as shown by the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE: XLP ) rising 10.9% in October—XLP’s best month since its December 1998 launch. The ratio between the two funds jumped 21% in a single month. That is the largest swing in favor of staples since February 2001, when the ratio surged 34%. Only three months in the pair’s 27-year history produced a bigger move: September 2000, November 2000 and February 2001. All three came during the dot-com bust. XLP/XLK ratio, monthly price change (%). Source: TradingView Walmart Leads the Staples Rally Twenty-eight of 31 holdings closed the month in positive territory. Constellation Brands Inc. STZ , Walmart Inc. WMT , Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. KDP , The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. EL and Dollar Tree Inc. DLTR all gained more than 17%. Walmart, the fund’s largest holding at 11% of its weight, climbed 18.9%. Investors were paying for steady cash flows. Bank of America’s flow data showed money leaving momentum stocks for value and dividend strategies. On the Tech Side… Of the 33 largest XLK holdings, 26 fell in October. Intel Corp. INTC lost 45.3%. Most of that came on Oct. 30, when the stock plunged 28.6%, its worst session since 1974, after a factory disruption forced the company to cut its fourth-quarter outlook. Memory and storage names followed. Sandisk Corp. SNDK fell 33.9%, and Seagate Technology Holdings plc STX dropped 30.1%, chip-equipment maker Lam Research Corp. LRCX slid 27.2% and Marvell Technology Inc. MRVL took a 25.7% hit. The exception was Accenture plc ACN , which soared 40.8% after beating fiscal fourth-quarter revenue. MRVL XLK -25.7% A Bubble Bursting Or A Hedge Fund Cleanup? Jordi Visser , head of AI Macro Nexus Research at 22V Research, does not see a rerun of 2001. “This has been a rotation. This has been hedge fund deleveraging,” Visser said in a video published Saturday. He pointed to Morgan Stanley prime brokerage data showing “the largest degrossing they’ve seen” in October. In a degrossing, hedge funds cut long and short bets at the same time, which hits crowded winners hardest. He also warned against selling on bubble fears. “You have to get used to strikeout, strikeout, strikeout, home run,” he said. Wall Street Strategists Are Still Leaning Bullish Bank of America Global Research strategists Savita Subramanian and Victoria Roloff said in a Monday note that the S&P 500’s “relatively modest 1% decline masked extreme rotation beneath the surface.” “AI fears drove Growth’s worst month vs. Value since February 2001,” they added. Yet the bank’s Sell Side Indicator, which tracks how much strategists recommend holding in stocks, stayed at 57.2%, the highest since March 2022. The gauge is contrarian, so heavy optimism counts as a warning. It now sits just 0.3 percentage points from a “Sell” signal. When the indicator has been at this level or higher, S&P 500 returns over the following 12 months were negative 36% of the time, compared with 17% across all readings since 1985. In 2001, the escape into staples was only an early chapter. XLK went on to lose another 58% over the following 19 months, bottoming in September 2002. For Visser, October was a forced cleanup inside an intact AI boom. For Bank of America, it is a warning that arrived while strategists were still near peak optimism.

Apple Q4 Preview: All Eyes on iPhone 18, Dan Ives Says Company ‘Has the Demand Backdrop to Deliver’. Apple Inc AAPL kicks off the week with fiscal fourth-quarter results Monday after the market close . Here are the earnings estimates and why this report could carry "extra weight" for the company. Apple Q4 Earnings Estimates Analysts expect Apple to report fourth-quarter revenue of $113.39 billion, up from $102.47 billion in last year’s fourth quarter, according to data from Benzinga Pro . The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in 14 straight quarters. Analysts expect Apple to report fourth-quarter earnings per share of $1.99, up from $1.85 in last year’s fourth quarter. The company has beaten analyst estimates for earnings per share in 14 straight quarters. Dan Ives on Apple Stock Leading tech analyst Dan Ives of Yorkville Ives sees Apple’s upcoming report as an important one, saying it "carries extra weight" as the first earnings call with John Ternus as CEO. The analyst maintains an Outperform rating on Apple with a price target of $400 ahead of earnings. The quarterly results and commentary will also capture nine days of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max sales, a key factor in Apple’s future growth. "The September numbers are the appetizer and the December-quarter outlook is the main course, as it covers the first full period of iPhone 18 demand and the iPhone Duo launch," Ives said. While the iPhone Duo launch, which went on sale Oct. 23, won’t be part of fourth-quarter results, Ives said it’s important to see how Ternus "frames supply, memory costs, and the holiday quarter." "This is the Street’s first chance to hear Ternus set priorities on AI, product cadence and capital allocation." Ives said Ternus will likely lean into Apple’s product roadmap as a key story. The analyst said expectations are high for the quarter with iPhone revenue expected to be up 15% year over year and Services revenue expected to be up 10%. "The Street is already leaning into a strong quarter, and we believe Apple has the demand backdrop to deliver on it, with the outlook setting the tone from there." Ives said the three key items for Apple’s conference call are commentary on iPhone supply and demand, gross margins and Siri AI/Services. The analyst said AI monetization could add 15%+ to Services revenue in the coming years. Overall, Ives sees AI monetization worth $75 per share for Apple. Apple Stock Price Action Apple stock is down 1.1% to $340.71 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $243.42 to $351.73. Apple shares are up 25.7% year to date.

Nebius Stock Drops: What's Going On. Nebius Group NV NBIS shares are falling Monday. Investors are seemingly worried that the AI boom has run too far, hitting neocloud providers and data center operators . Nebius Group stock is facing resistance. What’s driving NBIS stock lower? Nebius Stock Falls as AI Bubble Worries Hit Neoclouds Nebius stock sharply dipped during the market open Monday. The stock is currently losing about 1% as traders keep selling AI infrastructure names on bubble fears. Neoclouds, which rent out AI computing power, and data center companies feel that pressure most. The slide extends Friday’s drop, when Nebius fell after Amazon and Intel posted results that missed Wall Street forecasts. Those misses deepened concerns about how much companies are pouring into AI infrastructure. Nebius stock appears tied to growing doubts about whether AI spending has outpaced reality. A report published Sunday noted that SpaceX stock closed Friday at $134, well below last month’s $176.56 peak. It added that investors increasingly expect the bubble to pop. That fear could reach any company that builds or leases AI computing capacity. Nebius Stock Sinks to its Weakest Level Since July Nebius trades near $148.37. Since touching a $299.86 peak on June 22, the stock’s only lower print came on July 29, at $145.80. Monday’s slide takes it back near that level, its weakest since then. The stock began the year’s climb from a $73.52 low on Feb. 5. The past month has been rough. Nebius has lost 38.83%, while XLK, a fund that tracks technology stocks, has lost 10.03%. Technical Read: Downtrend With Hints of Fading Pressure Nebius has dropped 50.5% from its June peak and trades below its 200-day average. That average is still rising and sits at $177.72. Indicators send mixed signals. The price is under the $153.27 close from Oct. 26, a recent low, yet the 14-day relative strength index reads higher than it did then. Technicians call that a bullish divergence, and it hints that sellers may be tiring. Resistance sits at $168.50, and a close above it would erase the latest leg down. Taking back the 200-day average would lift the stock over a closely watched long-term gauge. NBIS Shares Are Sliding NBIS Price Action: Nebius shares were down 2.23% at $150.71 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro .

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing President Trump to launch renewed strikes against Iran. It comes a week after the WSJ reported the US had warned Gulf Arab states to prepare for a possible short, intense military campaign against Iran after tomorrow’s midterm elections.
